Morgan Freeman’s plane crash lands in Mississippi after tire blowout as he credits pilot for saving his life.

The aircraft that the 78-year-old actor was on skidded off the runway into a field after making an emergency landing, the Tunica, Mississippi Sheriff’s Department confirms to ET. “I was on my plane on the way to Texas to shoot a segment for The Story of God,” said Freeman. “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems. The website reports that the plane – which is believed to be owned by the Oscar winner – veered off the end of the runway and into a dirt field after landing.

I cannot say the same about my plane.” It’s a scary situation for the actor, who has been coping with the tragic stabbing death of his step-granddaughter in New York City this past August. In September of last year, Freeman was piloting a private jet, and safely landed it after it began malfunctioning en route to the Toronto International Film Festival. ‘The slats would not retract in the air,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. ‘On the ground they were fine, but in the air they were a problem. Freeman has previously admitted to being in near constant pain as he continues to suffer from fibromyalgia – chronic widespread pain – stemming from his broken shoulder.

Sadly, despite doctors promising it would improve by 2011, his left hand remains immobile due to the severe nerve damage he suffered in the 2008 crash, and he has to wear the compression glove to keep the blood flow going. ‘I suffered nerve damage and it hasn’t gotten better.
